How to check your Claude usage
Claude gives you a 5-hour session limit and a weekly limit, and it only tells you about them when you look. Here are the three places to look, and how to keep the numbers in view without looking at all.
On claude.ai: Settings › Usage
Open claude.ai/settings/usage (or click your name, then Settings, then Usage). You'll see a bar for each limit on your plan:
- Current session: how much of your 5-hour session you've used, and how long until it resets.
- Weekly limit: one limit across all models, with the day and time it resets.
- Fable weekly limit on Max plans: a separate bar for Fable models, which can use up to half of your weekly limit.
- Usage credits, if you've turned them on.
Anthropic describes the page in Usage limit best practices.
In Claude Code: /usage
In Claude Code, type:
/usage
It shows your plan's usage limits and what used them. /cost and /stats are aliases for the same command (Claude Code commands). Don't reach for /status: today it shows your version, model, account and connection, not your limits.
Without opening anything
Both of those mean stopping to check. I built Usage for Claude so I wouldn't have to. It reads the same numbers as the Usage page and keeps them in front of you:
- Mac menu bar: your session percentage in the menu bar, with the session and weekly bars and reset times one click away.
- iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch: the same numbers in the app, in Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, and on your watch face.
- Alerts: a notification when you cross a threshold you pick, when you're on pace to run out, or when a limit resets.
- Several accounts: work and personal side by side, each with its own limits.
It updates in the background and needs no API key: you sign in on Claude's own website inside the app.
Reading the numbers
If the session bar is high and the weekly bar is low, you only need to wait for the session to reset. If the weekly bar is high, slow down: the weekly limit takes days to come back, not hours. When Claude's limits reset explains both windows.
